really need help with my adsl connection...

i'm having loads of problem with my adsl connection,
windows 98se can not detect the modem and the usb driver
is not installing, my isp said that i need to reinstall
the network drivers or something???? can someone please
advise me on what the problem could be and i have very
little faith in my isp, also i have updated the dialup
networking adapter to 1.4.....
