Ok here is a really weird issue I have been having for some time.
Issue: Wireless Networks Tab is missing, Wireless adapter will not work,
and windows will not shutdown when the tab is missing.
Let me start from the top here. I know all about the wireless configuration
service and how to re-start it. This is something else and it’s not related
to hardware. So the issue is my adapter will some times come up when the
machine turns on without a wireless networks tab. The wireless service is
always up and running when this happens restarting it does nothing. This
does not matter if there is a different user or even a different adapter
installed. I tried three different adapters and they all perform the same.
When this is true the machine will not shut down. I have reloaded the OS and
before that tried to repair the OS. When the OS setup tries to install the
network adapter it locks up during the OS set-up. I have gone as far as
changing software and hardware. I used a new laptop and tried to reinstall
the OS on the first laptop. I have changed everything to see what is going on
and all the time the same issue comes back. The wireless network “IE the AP”
or the security set-up as far as WEP, 802.1x or nothing does change anything.
I tried different networks with different security settings without any
help.
What I found out so far:
I believe that when no other network adapter but a single one is enable this
problem goes away. When there is more then one network adapters enabled this
problem occurs.
Another issue I found that made this happens as well: When two wireless
network adapters are enabled and are both set to use the wireless
configuration from Microsoft they both have the same issue.
Any help would be great. I have tried reloading the OS, replacing the
laptop, using new and different radio cards. I’m at a lost as to how this
problem can occur when I change everything. The only thing I can think of is
that there is multiple adapters installed two wireless, one wired, and two
GPRS adapters.
