The question remains.... Do we really need 100mbps speeds anyway? I have
just moved from 1.5mbps to 5.5mbps and for what I do online it makes no
difference. If the tories think that 100mbps broadband is an election
winner, they will be disappointed.

Not right now, but I am sure we will find a use for it. ;-)

|One thing it would do, is allow peole to move away from server farms to
host stuff, and host it where its actually more secure.

I reads something yesterday - apprently about 95% of people don't
actually delete mail off their ISP. Crikey. What a huge security hole.

I could really use 5Mps *upload* speed..

When trying to send megabytes of CAD files to people.

99.9% of the email is spam and people do not bother to empty their junk
mail dumps at the ISPs end because it disappears automatically after a
short time.

I don't delete mail from the servers because I regularly use several
computers and IMAP is essential.

why do you have to access your mail from several computers?

I'd be happy with 5.5Mbps /at all times/; I connect at 1.5 - 1.8Mbps most
of the time but, of course, for half the day it's reallistically more like
200 - 400kbps.
Broadband speeds are like Megapixels, mAh etc. - big number that's to grab
the headline but ignores the real issues.

Peter.
2x4 - thick plank; 4x4 - two of 'em.

Really> My BRAS is 3000 currently - conecting at 3500 and up a bit and I
get 2800-3000 download speeds.

Change ISP then. You should get your BRAS. Or 85% of it. If not, your
ISP is shagging you.

Yes and how many families would have such a setup or even require one? You
are just inventing a new way to waste bandwidth.

Take a reality pill.....

It might get them financial support from the companies who stand to gain
by providing 100mbps broadband.

Anyway, how else will we receive on-demand 3D videos and movies?

A better example would be people buying an SUV to go to the local shops.
