See that ethernet wire going into the back of the machine? You can
unplug it when you don't want to use the network. Method a.

Or you could get a cheap network switch (only need 4 ports) and put it
between the pc and the rest of the network, then turn the switch off
when you don't want to use the network. Method b.

Someone will be along soon with methods c onwards.

Here is method C:

Unplug the ADSL cable from the router to the phone socket.

That way your LAN still functions, but your internet connection stops.

Or go into the router and set it to dial on demand, drop on idle..

may screw up the BT ADSL settings mind you..
