1) I am trying to network an XP Pro box and a Redhat 8.0 box using SAMBA
2.2.5+.

I can see/access shared folders on the Redhat box but now I'm trying to
figure out how to access Windows shared folders from the Redhat box. Can
anyone tell me if I need to use SAMBA or NFS for this?

2) Also, when I run this command 'smbclient -L hostname' to

the system responds that it has added an interface x.w.y.z and prompts me
for a password, which I enter. It then responds with: 'session setup failed:
NT_STATUS_LOGIN_FAILURE'

can anyone tell me why I'm getting this error? and is it related to my
smb.conf file?

Appreciate any feedback I can get. Thanks, Gerry Quan

Your multiple crossposting missed the most topical groups possible:
comp.protocols.smb and linux.samba. My reply only goes here, where I
read and it is somewhat topical.

smbclient (Samba) unless your Windows machine happens to be running an
NFS server (which is unlikely.)

Your login (username, password) was rejected by the Windows machine. Is
the user created there? Check the logs (event viewer IIRC) there.

Quite possibly. Password encryption might be at issue. Windows expects
encrypted passwords.
