I confirm this: in 1973 I drove from Germany through Russia to Finland.
I couldn't read any of the Russian script/text except some 'STOP' signs.
Perhaps these signs were donated/stolen from the west.

Arrogance or other human traits are carried/embedded in humans,
not in countries Let's admitt that the French are sour at being
swamped by the anglophiles. It's natural/justifyable resentment.
Do we want to stir/agravate or manage the problem ?

If email is "banned" in France, are French ISPs required to have filters
to remove/change the word "e-mail" in all "email" and news in the
newsgroups? If a French person posts a question in a newsgroup and
would also like an "email" response, that person would be required to
use a different wording?????

of course not since the beginning there is a problem in the subject :
France DOES NOT ban the term e-mail, you can use it if you want
It's just that for the administration the official term to use is courriel
that's just a question of how to write an official paper.
Nobody will give you a fine if you use the term e-mail
France is a democratic state which respects the human rigths and other
international conventions, not like the USA

From my understanding of France and the French language from a French
student I boarded a few years back, the French language is not as
free-from as American English where we make up words and definitions
ad-hock to fit our needs/quirks. French is controlled by "The
Adademe'". If they don't aprove of a word, it is 'banned' from usage.
or may be more properly, it must aprove of a word to be used.

And no authority in all of human history has EVER controlled the
vernacular. Gimme a break. Latin was controlled, and the people spoke
Italian. Even Newspeak had trouble catching on among IngSoc party
members. They didn't even try to introduce it to the proles.

So can we let this doubleplus ungood thread go? What's the point?
