Most likely you're trying to use your ISP's SMTP smarthost for sending
your emails - typically this will not be allowed unless you're directly
connected to your ISP's network (which is why it works when you're on
your home broadband connection)
You'll need an SMTP server which can be accessed from anywhere. If you
register your domain with Google Apps, you can use their secure SMTP
service from anywhere. It's free for the standard edition.
Other than that there are other services who will offer secure
authenticated SMTP relaying - authsmtp (
www.authsmtp.com) is one, but
they're not free.
