We have investigated this in some detail as we have a number of customers
that have suffered.
There are 2 areas that have not been previously identified when we have
researched.
a) I had windows delayed write failures for months .... then I found that I
had a persistent route in my IP stack that was at fault.
To check this :
ROUTE PRINT
from a DOS box and look for routes, persistent routes were my problem. Get
them checked out and see whether you really need them. I suspect that they
were causing IP traffic to "hop" too many jumps or something. Not a very
scientific answer but it worked for me. And whats more I can easily
reproduce it by recreating the route.
Removing the offending route and my problem dissapeared
b) we recommend Innoculate / ETrust Anti Virus and consequently most of our
customers have this software. We found that the low level drivers that we
had throughout were causing the problem at customer sites. an update to the
Innoc drivers and the problem dissapeared.
There is very little help out there on this subject .. the only other cause
is down to networking problems - usually associated with either network
cards or active equipment. Process of elimination may help you there. The
only other diagnosis is packet sniffing. That is no fun, believe me !
I hope that helps ...
