Thanks for your reply.
Yes, 2 NICs. I've tried with NAT enabled and with "Basic Firewall Only".

Assuming you have two NICs in the RRAS server, have you enabled NAT?

WS2003 R2 SP2 RRAS server, branch office endpoint for a site-to-site VPN.
I'd like to be able to use RDP to the external NIC (IOW **NOT** over the VPN
connection) as a "fallback" to remotely troubleshoot this server in case the
VPN connection fails...but I don't seem to be setting up the RRAS "Basic
Firewall" and packet filters correctly because I get this message:
---------------------------
Remote Desktop Disconnected
---------------------------
This computer can’t connect to the remote computer.
Remote Desktop cannot find the remote computer. Type the computer name or IP
address again, and then try connecting. If the problem continues, contact
the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator.

On the RRAS server, RDP-related packet filters are set as follows--
Inbound, drop all except:
Source IP: Any
Source Port: Any
Destination IP/Mask: <external IP>/255.255.255.255
Destination port: TCP/3389
Outbound, drop all except:
Source IP/Mask: <external IP>/255.255.255.255
Source Port: TCP/3389
Destination IP: Any
Destination port: Any
Basic Firewall Only, Services & Ports:
Remote Desktop enabled
Private Address 127.0.0.1 (& have also tried internal IP.)
What am I missing?
