I am attempting to use rasdial to initiate a VPN connection with a profile
that has saved username/password credentials so that I do not have to pass
that information in plaintext through the command line (as I would like to
call rasdial through a script).

The problem is when I call rasdial "Connection Name" the connection fails
with a remote access error 691. Of course when I call rasdial "Connection
Name" "Username" "Password" all is fine.

Why can rasdial not initiate the connection when a VPN profile has a saved
username and password?

If not, then is there another way to script the initiation of a VPN
connection without passing the password in plain text?

Carl

I've checked "only just me", but I am logged in using that user who the
password is saved for and it will not authenticate automatically.

I did dig up this circa. 1999 Kbase article that may answer my problem ...
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/130023

Does any have any more recent articles that refer to this issue?
