Rapid disconnects from too many AP's on Same SSID?

I have an ongoing situation that deals with about 40 3com AP 6000
Access
Points 650 wireless middle school students(each have their own
computer)
using XP with 3com 3crwe62092a 802.11b WLAN cards all on the same
subnet.
The Access points are the same SSID and are all staggered on channels
1,6,
and 11 and in some parts of the building it is two floors. We have
been
experiencing rapid disconnects and re-associations when you are using
the
network. This can occur regardless of how many wireless clients are
active.
Primarily the access points are located one to a room due to it being
an
older building that has wire mesh in the walls. This makes it hard to
get
that great of a useable signal from outside the room. Typically there
may be
4 to 5 full classrooms of about 25 to 30 students at any given time,
so
there really is not that much traffic. My question is; if I were to
change
it so that there are several different ssid's throughout the building
could
that help my problem out or is it simply a channel bleed over. I have
tried
just about everything except for this and am leery about doing this
due to
the users being so young it is hard to get them to use it right as it
is.
Also my gut tells me that this discontinued 3com product line is
junk...any
takers?

I would be glad to provide more details.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Russ

Just a thought, maybe you are running out of DHCP addresses and/or lease
time may need to be shortened?
