Hmmm. Have decided to expand my existing netwrok, I just installed a new
WGR614 (802.11g) router and connected a wired XP machine, a wired Win 98
machine, and a wireless Win 98 machine (with Netgear WG311 PCI card). I had
everything in the same room so I can quickly configure the machines.

The wireless machine works perfectly......in the same room. I bring it up
one level and it cant fiind a singal !. I must say I'm a bit dissapointed.
This is supposed to be the new mainstream technology! The router is
beautiful, but not if it dont work!

Are there any tips to improve range!

I suppose I will need to try moving the Win98 machine to the other corner of
the room it now in ( a pain) , and move my router (that will be a royal
pain) to the other corner of its room.

This sucks. I spent a lot on the WGR 614 rotuer, the WG311 card, and another
wireless card (WG 511)still in the box.

Marvin

You can try to adjust TX rates for the wirless router.
Also try adjusting the preamble.

Hmmm..I tired the 'Ad Hoc - Computer to Computer ' option and I did get a
connection, but cannot see the network. Anyone know the diff betrnn the
'infrastrucutre' setting and the 'ad-hoc' setting?

Ad hoc is a PC to PC connection. Infrastructure is
connecting multiple using a hub or switch

If I understand correctly you can network from your
wireless PC but not from the fard wired PCs. if this is
the case I have a couple Questions that may lead you to
resolution...
1. is the Router set with DHCP Enabled?
2. If so, Does it assign in both directions? ie.. Wireless
and Wired? Some only assign wireless.
3. If is set as DHCP are the wired Systems set to auto
detect or static.
4. If static have you Excluded those addresses from the
DHCP Scope on the Router.

Hope this helps.
