Range, and setting up a wireless system

I am a novice, and am considering setting up a simple wireless system
that would allow me to share an internet connection from my home to
computer in another building on our farm property. The two buildings
are approximately 150 - 200 feet apart. The "base" station is near a
window, and the "client" computer is located just inside the barn,
also near a window.

I picked up a Belkin wireless router and desktop card last week, but
the reception was so poor that I was unable to connect to the other
end of the house (45 feet), much less outside or across the way to the
barn.

Is there another router/card maker that has better range? And would
you suggest a product from your catalog that could supplement the
system, increasing the range of a "over-the-counter" system that I am
considering?

Thanks for any help or suggestion you could provide.

If your AP and Client Card have detachable antennas, you can add range
extenders. Have a look here http://www.cantenna.com and here
http://www.fab-corp.com/ and if you are handy with such things, you can have
a look at this http://www.turnpoint.net/wireless/cantennahowto.html or this
http://www.oreillynet.com/cs/weblog/view/wlg/448 and this last one describes
how to make directional reflectors

For that short a link, you can probably build a couple of reflectors for
almost nothing.
