Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone else out there has experienced the same as me.

About 9 months ago I bought a Netgear WGR614 cable/dsl wireless router
for use at home on a Telewest broadband connection. Originally I
installed it with no encryption (just starting out with this, it seemed
easier at the time) and things worked just fine.

Couple of months down the line I noticed 2 new attached devices which
definitely didn't belong to me, so I immediately configured 128bit WEP
encryption and reconfigured my NICS accordingly. Again everything
worked just fine apart from the fact that I noticed a drop in transfer
speed between router and NIC.

A couple of months ago I noticed that Netgear had uploaded a beta
firmware version V1400 for the WGR614v1 router that included WPA-PSK
encryption so I downloaded it and flashed my router and then
updated/re-configured all the NICs again.

WPA-PSK encryption provides everything that WEP does without the speed
drop so I was pretty much a happy person. However since upgrading to
the beta v1400 release I've noticed that the router will now crash after
transferring almost a Gig of data, which for me means a crash every 3
days or so. Only way to recover is to power cycle the router.

I've emailed Netgear Tech Support and also sent an email to their
firmware development team so I can only hope that this gets resolved
eventually.

I was wondering though, has anyone else experienced this at all?
If so, have you managed to resolve it?

Jason

I noticed the same problem and went back to the previous level of
software for the router. That level is extremely reliable. The 1400
level would work for awhile and then stop and the only recovery was to
power cycle the router.

Dave,

Damn, you've confirmed what I thought!

I've just downgraded the router to the V1.126 version which doesn't have
WPA encryption. Configuration was a bit trickier for some reason, took
several attempts to get the wireless NICS to register with the router,
however the connection is now stable and has been for 48 hours.

Thanks for your input though!
