Hi,

How many milliwatt does 15 dB output mean?

Everybody told me earlier that ORiNOCO PC cards had the most powerful radio
output among the 'common' brands.

Now I see that both ORiNOCO and D-Link have 15 dB radio output power. Does
this mean that D-Link would give me the same max link length with the same
cable/antenna equipment as the ORiNOCO equipment or do I need to check other
parameters as well?

Thanks for facts on this issue

best regards

Tor

15db=30mw.
Sensitivity is important too.
3db = double the power, so 20db is around 100mw.

Do you mean 15dBm ? That's 15dB relative to 1 milliWatt.
Power in mW = 10^(Power in dBm / 10)

So 15dBm = 31.6mW or approximately 30mW
Another example, -6dBm = .25mW

only crackhead could told you that, more like you misunderstood
orinoco has most powerful radio PERIOD becouse its sensitivity

lol no, Dlink / Linksys / Netgear / other cheapos are toys, toys for home use

Pozdrawiam.

Well, I know perfectly well the difference between rx and tx, but maybe the
guy hadn't got it right.

For exemple DWL-2000AP

Well, I know that you get what you pay for. No prob, however that wasn't
the issue in my post. So you say that the advantage of ORiNOCO is their
receive sensibility (and reliability).

Do you know about reviews or tests where I can find real-life tests for
different models/makes of wifi gears. I am particulary interested in max.
link length with different antennas (free sight).

do you want me to teach you how to use google ?

toy
G speeds available only in the same room

sensitivity and radio quality, take 2 differend cards (one orinoco)
feed them with the same SNR (signal to noise ratio) and look how orinoco performs,
the other ones a joke (b speeds)

AP or a card ? if you want p2p long links look at tsunami

Pozdrawiam.
