Quick disconnent

My disconnect problem seems different than those posted--it's almost immediate.

It only happens at some locations like Hilton Hotels. The networks in my
home, at work, and t-mobile in Starbucks work fine. But at some locations, my
computer sees the network and I can usually connect to the network--but
Internet applications (e.g., Web browser, FTP, etc.) do not work. I get
server not found error message for any Web pages. If the Web browser does
work, it works for less than a minute and then if I click on a link, I get
the server not found error message again. If I click on the wireless icon, it
still indicates that I'm connected to the network--I just cannot USE the
network.

I have Windows XP Pro with SP2 and auto update is on. I have a Fujitsu P2120
laptop.

It sounds like a DNS problem. Do you have your laptop set to get its DNS
information from a specific gateway or particular servers or to get DNS
automatically?

I assume you mean go to "Wireless Network Connection Properties," and look at
TCP/IP properties. If yes, the answer is "Obtain DNS server address
automatically" is checked.

The reason I state my assumption is that I went to help and typed in DNS and
one entry described configuring "incoming connection to use TCP/IP" and the
first step says Open Network Connections and then second step says Click
Incoming Connections... The trouble is I don't have any label or tab or
anything that says "Incoming Connections" in my Network Connections. Could
that be a problem?

Well, it still sounds like DNS isn't getting resolved to me. You have
your TCP/IP settings correct, to automatically get the IP and DNS. The
next time it happens, try:

Start>Run>cmd [enter]
ipconfig /flushdns [enter]

Otherwise, since your networking works in other locations like home and
Starbucks, I can only guess that Hilton has something set up strangely.
Maybe someone reading this group has experience with Hiltons and
wireless networking. I'm sorry, but I don't.
