Setup

PC1: Linux RH9 - eth0 - 172.17.0.32 static
eth1 - 192.168.2.255 static

Laptop1 Linux RH9 - eth0 - dhcp from PC1, 192.168.2.20

Laptop2 Linux RH9 - eth0 - dhcp from PC1, 172.17.18.27

So I have PC1 and two switches, one for eth0, one for eth1.
The two laptops are separated by the switches.

I don't have IPtables, or forwarding turned on at PC1

Here is my arp on PC1
Address HWtype HWaddress Flags Mask
Iface
172.17.18.27 ether 00:0D:2E:E8:5B:5C C
eth0
192.168.2.20 ether 00:10:A4:8A:88:08 C
eth1

So my question is, why Laptop1 can ping Laptop2 and vice versa?
I cannot telnet into each other, which is correct since I didn't turn
on forwarding. But why pinging works?
Can I stop that from happening?
TIA
