Hello.
I had a questions about Windows 98 SE roaming profiles. I am
configuring a Samba server as a Windows NT domain for a non-profit
organization. There are only a few client computers and they are all
running Windows 98 SE. On the server I set up the users, the home
directory share, the netlogon share, and I have a login script
successfully running on startup. Everything is working well so far…
except for user profiles.
When a user logs on for the first time, a message box pops up asking
if they would like to have their personal settings stored. I would
like this answer to always be Yes, but I'm not sure how to do that.
Then, at logon and logoff, some of the user's settings are copied to
their home directory… specifically "Application Data", "Cookies", and
"History". I wanted everything to be copied, including Desktop and
Favorites. I couldn't figure out how to do this, but I discovered
that I have to go into control panel, Users, and click the current
user, and go to "Change Settings". In that window, I can change what
parts of the profile are copied.
Is there any way to make these "Personalized Item Settings" be global
for all users? Otherwise, I would have to log in as each user on each
computer and change these settings.
I have a config.pol in the netlogon which the computers download at
logon. I was trying to find a setting in the Policy Editor, but I
couldn't. I thought maybe I could create a custom template, but I'm
not sure where the settings are in the registry.
Thanks,
Joe
