I live in a rural area where dsl or cable are not available. ISDN is
possible but is cost prohibitive to me. We have been using dial-up for a
number of years. Tomorrow we are getting a Direcway DW6000 satellite
modem installed. They say they are only supported when using Microsoft
Windows 98SE and up, or a Mac. So the installer will be using my
husband's Windows ME machine to get everything working. It will be
plugged in to the uplink part of our hub. Has anyone had any experience
with using these modems with Linux? I'm thinking I should only have to
make sure my eth0 is in the same ip address range and use whatever is
set up on the ME machine as the gateway address for my gateway address.
The DW6000 has a built in router/firewall. I sure hope I'm right. I've
done a google search and can't find any information about anyone using
this modem with Linux.
