hey guys

how can you tell which PCMCIA / PC Card slots are compatible with 32-bit
CardBus peritherals ?

The obvious answer is to check the owner's manual. If you don't have one,
you should be able to download it off the manufacturer's web site.

If it's a laptop that was manufactured in the last 4 or 5 years, it should
be CardBus compatible. I had a WinBook with a Pentium 233 MMX that had
CardBus slots. It's a pretty old standard.

i havn't bought a laptop yet so i was looking for a general guide, the 4-5
year information is useful, thanks

If it fits, it's probably compatible.

Cardbus (PCMCIA version 2) generally has 4 ridges on the top side and along the
sides, an extra plastic finger.

PCMCIA version 1 cards will fit into a cardbus slot, but NOT vice-versa.
