I'm at wit's end and I was wondering if anyone's has tried this out(and
got it to work). Here is my setup:

Comp1
XP
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe with 2 network cards

Com2
Fedore Core 4
ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe with 2 network cards

Comp 3
XP (Connected to router)

Linksys BEFW11S4 V2 Wireless router.

Comp1 and Comp2 are connected to the router through 1 NIC each.
I've made a crossover cable (568A->568B looking down from the top of the
end) and connected Comp1 and Comp2. I've tested the wire and it's got all
of the wires connected and it's non-parallel. Both machines detect that
there's a live network cable attached to it(I tried with a regular network
cable and it didn't). I've set the IPs for the first NICs of Comp1 and
Comp2 to 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.101 respectively. On the second NICs
of Comp1 and Comp2 I've set the IPs to 192.168.110 and 192.168.1.111
respectively. I've removed the gateway values for the second NICs. I
can't seem to get one computer to see the other using the second set of
NICs. I've tried with PING and FTP. Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance,

J

I assume that's 192.168.1.110

(This problem comes up on comp.os.linux.networking a lot. A look
through an archive might be illuminating.)

What I'm going to say applies to the Linux box. I suspect that the XP
box can be fixed the same way, but I'm *not* and XP guru.

Change the addresses on the second NICs to 192.168.2.100 and 101. Once
you do this, traffic using the IP destinations 192.168.2.100 and 101
will use the crossover cable. If that's all you want, stop there.

If you want traffic using the IP destinations 192.168.1.100 and 101 to
use the crossover cable, you will have to add a static route on the
Linux box (and do something similar on the XP box). The route on Comp1
should list 192.168.2.101 as the gateway for 192.168.1.101.

Don't why you are trying to make it so complicated.
Simply use 1 NIC in each machine and connect a straight through cat5(not a
crossover) cable from each machine to the router. Run the windows
networking wizard for the xp machines and you're done.
Have the router set to use DHCP and forget the static IP's unless you have
some particular need for them. (you can always go back later and set up
static IP's if you need them, once your network is working OK)
If you're using static IP's you also need to set up the DNS servers from
your ISP.
