I'm having a little bit of difficulty with my network setup, and was
hoping for a nudge in the right direction.
First off, my network is fairly simple, a cable modem plugged into a
LinkSys BEFW11S4 router. Have 4 computer's wired, and three wireless.
Originally, the router was a Microsoft MN500, which I have given to a
friend and I decided on a Linksys this time around.
When I was using the MS router, I was able to use the wirless
computers to connect to a Remote Desktop session on one of the wired
computers. (Two of which don't have a monitor, keyboard or mouse,
hence the need of a remote desktop). The one wireless computer is a
Dell Axim X5 PocketPC, which would also connect to a Remote Desktop
just fine. I was also able to connect to my main desktop's ActiveSync
via the wireless ethernet as well.
Now that I'm using the Linksys router, everything pretty much works
except with the PocketPC. The laptop on wireless is able to use
Remote Desktop just fine, however the PocketPC wont connect. It also
is unable to connect to ActiveSync now as well.
There were never any ports forwarded on the routers for either
application, they all ran locally just fine. (In fact I would prefer
not to have the ports forwarded anyway as I'll never need to connect
from someplace else)
As a test I did set up a port forwarding rule for port # 3389. The
PocketPC was then able to connect to the one computer. But I never
had to do that before, that and the other two wireless computers can
connect just fine without the port forarding. Plus I have more than
one computer that needs to be able to be accessed via a remote
desktop.
I have checked the PocketPC's settings (which have never been
changed), it's able to hit internet sites just fine, plus it can
access shared resources on the network. It just craps out when it's
trying to connect via Remote Deskop or ActiveSync.
Any thoughts?
