Query: Reporting line noise

I seem to be getting some sort of intermittent line noise which causes
the ADSL connection to drop. There are faint audible crackles which
coincide with the connection dropping.

It's a BT line.

Do I report this to my ISP or to BT? Or both?

If the crackles are audible then report it to BT, having first checked
as well as possible that the problem still exists at the master socket
with household wiring disconnected if possible.

I had the almost the same problem about a year ago - after 3 visits from
BT, and a new cable run from the outside master junction, I got a slight
improvement in the noise on the line.

In the end the line went dead one day - BT fixed it the next day, telling
me something in the roadside box had gone wrong.

I've never had any more trouble.
