Q: Simple way to pick up resolv.conf info from DHCP to DNS?

Like many folks I'm sometimes using a system which is connected to a cable
modem and which therefore picks up configuration-information from the
provider via DHCP. This gets written to /etc/resolv.conf. Is there not a
very convenient way, that I simply don't know about yet, to integrate this
potentially-ever-changing IP address into my DNS server configuration?

I assume you mean info related to the DNS, then those probably are the
DNS of your provider. Now, I doubt that your provider has millions of
DNS servers, they are probably two or three. Get them and add them
to the 'forward' options of your own DNS. I bet that they don't change
very much.

The box said "Requires Windows 95 or better." I can't understand
why it won't work on my Linux computer.

I don't know about other distributions, but Debian has a package
called "resolvconf" which does exactly that. If you don't have Debian,
you can still look at what "resolvconf" does and adapt it to your
distribution (it's just a shell script).
