I have a Thinkpad 770E with Win98SE with a semi-working LAN. I've been
unable to get anything going with a peer to peer setup. As an interim
method of transferring files I managed to get an FTP program talking to
a small FTP server on my PC. I guess that means it's talking in TCP/IP.

The card I have is an Intel dual purpose PC Card adapter (class III or
something like that?). The modem works. The TCP/IP works. But when I
try to set up P2P it tells me to shut down the computer, install the
card and restart the computer.

That is, part of w98 sees the NIC side of the adapter and part does not.
I guess you might say one part os smarter than the other - or whatever.

The PC Card is an Intel(R)Pro/100 LAN+Modem56 Cardbus II.

I'm definitely a novice on this. Many words and acronyms related to
networking do not show up in a Help search. I would appreciate any help
I can get.

Intel pcmcia and usb devices are non-intuitive to install. 1st, you install
the drivers, then install the device, then let it autodetect with the new
driver/inf set you previously installed.

Been there, done that, long ago.

My point still is, part of W98 sees both halves of the Intel and parts
of it see only one - while both parts should be seeing both halves.
