Hi,
Probably best thing you can do is to use NAT device (maybe one of your
routers -- e.g. Linksys). Configure your router with public IP address while
you use private addresses on the LAN (e.g. 192.168.x.x) for including your
server.
Now what you would have to configure is port forwarding from your NAT device
to your server. E.g. if you intend to setup HTTP access and you setup IIS on
TCP port 80, you need to allow (open) TCP port 80 access on your NAT device.
Next thing you would need to configure is port forwarding (where traffic is
forwarded on LAN) - this would be your server.
This setup would give your computers on LAN some level of protection from
the internet while giving you an option to allow access to certain services
from the internet to your server and practically unrestricted access from
computers on your LAN to your server.
I hope this helps,
Mike
