Hi,

In theory i have my network setup like this:

ISP
|
| (fibre)
|
(hardware1)
|
| (ethernet)
|
(switch)_______ (server1)
|
(server2)

How the heck do i allocate a PUBLIC IP to server 1 and server 2 ?

What hardware do i use at section (hardware1)

Assume i patch cable direct from (hardware1) to ISP router.

I have only used NAT before to forward a single public ips ports to servers
behind (hardware1). So (hardware1) subnets are different on its WAN and its
LAN interface. Dont understand how (server1) and (server2) can obtain a
public IP from the ISP if there is hardare between them and the ISP network.

Any advice , links, abuse : ) .. welcome, just trying to understand.

thanks for your time
Scott

Hello Scott,

Do i understand you correct, you got 2 public ip addresses from your ISP
and will connect your 2 servers to the internet with this IP's? The servers
are not allocated in a private network?

Best regards

Thanks for the reply.

Yes thats basically IT, 2 public IPs, not private ones (In theory two public
IPs from the ISP). I have 2 server sitting behind the router connecting me
to the ISP (I will call this network2).

What im trying to do is recreate my dedicated servers setup (I will call
this network1). I have 4 dedicated server rented from an ISP. Each of these
servers has a public IP address on its network interface (i.e i can IPCONFIG
on these servers and see it). But i have a firewall in front on these
servers which i assume has a WAN/LAN interface.

If i wanted to receate network1 on network2 (i.e with 2 public IPs from the
bandwidth ISP), how can i allocated PUBLIC ips to the network interface of
my 2 servers when the router sits between the ISP and my servers ?

Surly i cant. Unless network 1 firewall does not have a WAN/LAN ip and all
it does is pass packets like a switch. Is that possible ?

Thanks for any help understanding this.
Scott

ps. diagram below would be network2
