Proxim Orinoco Gold & NetStumbler 3.30 Problem

I'm trying to get Netstumbler 3.30 working with a Proxim Orinoco 11b
card (model 8240). I'm running Win2kPro.

The card works independently and connects to networks - the problem is
stumbler cannot see it - the card is greyed out in the device list and
stumbler says it cannot find a card.

I'm definitely using the proxim / agere drivers (I've installed them
manually and ensured they are being used, not the MS version). Can
anyone suggest anything else?

I have not checked the firmware but the card is about 1 week old so I
guess it's ok - I'll be trying this next.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Is your card the Orinoco Classic Gold? The one with the purple label? The
newer one (with a guy running on the label) doesn't work with NS. If you do
have the classic card, the most recent version of the drivers doesn't work
with NS, you need to load the drivers and flash the card with the firmware
from the Winter of 2002 found on the Orinoco website

Ouch, I've got the newer card with the guy on. Is there any other
software I can use instead?

Thanks for your help on this.

I have seen some reports that that new card will work under Windows XP. I have
not tried it but would be worth a try (Windows XP and NS). Other than that,
there are a number of softwares that run under Linux but none that I know will
work with windows.

You might find some information here helpful

Just to let you know I am running the Orionco Gold (new) on a laptop with XP
along with Netstumbler with GPS to map hotspots. Works good. If you don't
want to change os the only other software that I found to detect wifi
connections in my tries has been the Boingo software, no extras but will
detect open wifi connections. as well as their network, but their service is
not required.
