I just setup a couple of the mp.11a and so far things are good. The
setup screens and interface are a pain in the neck and not well done.
Most settings need to have a reboot accomplished before they take
effect. This can make setting up security and other features difficult
at best. Once everything is done it seems to work pretty well.
The link I installed is about 2.5 miles with a visual line of sight.
By the looks of things there are probably a few obstructions in the
fresnel zone but they have not caused problems yet. The dishes are
andrew 2' parabolics at each end (29 dB gain) and about 80' of times
LMR600 cable as feedlines. The cable offers reasonable low loss at a
good price. Could have gone with a better cable like an air dielectric
heliax but the cost would have been much higher. since there are two
links on this path the proxim links were installed with horizontal
polarization and the western mux with vertical. The 30 dB of loss by
changing polarization helps insure that the two links don't cause
interference to each other.
I am running the links at the 36 mbit rate with the turbo option
enabled and they sustain a data transfer rate of about 23 mbits per
second. Might be able to squeeze a little more out of them if needed
but the higher rate is likely to cause more packet errors and retries.
