Yes
To add XP to the network and use NetBEUI for File and Printer Sharing
1. Follow the instructions in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article
HOW TO: Install NetBEUI on Windows X
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=30104
2. Un-bind File and Printer Sharing from TCP/IP on all computers a
shown here
Windows XP Network Protocols

To share XP's DSL connection with the other computers
1. Follow the steps shown here
XP ICS - Server Setup Using the Network Setup Wizard
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/...s/serverwiz.ht
2. Don't run XP's Network Setup Wizard on any of the other computers
no matter how many times it tells you to do it
3. Manually configure the TCP/IP settings on the other computers t
obtain an IP address automatically. The XP computer will run
mini-DHCP server to make the address assignments
Note: With the XP computer set up as an Internet Connection Sharin
host, there's no technical advantage to using NetBEUI for File an
Printer Sharing. TCP/IP would work just as well, and enabling XP'
Internet Connection Firewall on the DSL connection would protect you
entire network from access by other Internet users. However, sinc
the other computers are already set up for NetBEUI, I'm no
recommending that you change

thanks for your valuable advice
I have in fact tried to change my network to use TCP/IP for file and printer sharing, but when i unbind netbeui from file and printer sharing and bind TCP/IP to it, the following happens. Hope you can help
All pc's work fine, but an hp pavilion desktop running on win me never displays the "client for microsoft networks" logon bo
instead it displays the standard windows logon box on startup, even when the client for microsoft networks is the primary logon option. When i open my network places on that machine I can see all shared folders, but i can only access the few folders that are not password protected and use the printers, which are not password protected either. The other computers have no problem accessing any of the other computers, including the problematic HP pavilion. I wonder if you know what i can do to make the HP pavilion display the "client for microsoft networks" dialog and login normally
Thanks in advance
