hi all,

i have a simple network. no domain but using an Win2k3 box with an XP
box. i try to enter a protected share on my XP box from my 2k3 (c$)
however, i get prompted for a username and password.

when trying to login to the protected share from my 2k3 box to my XP i
get a username & pw box. the username field is grayed out (guest) and
the password is blank. how do i get the username box to be writable?

trying to have my 2k3 box backup info (using backup software) from my
XP on a nightly basis but i cant cause this login prompt

thanks
Chuck

How to setup home or peer-to-peer network

If all of the computers in a peer-to-peer workgroup don't have a common
networking protocol, a common workgroup, and common user names and
passwords, the computers may experience a difficulty to communicate with
other computers that are running Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows 95, or
Microsoft Windows 98. To resolve this issue, configure the computers by
ensuring that they have a common networking protocol (TCP/IP), a common
workgroup, and common user names and passwords. Also make sure enable File
and Printer Sharing is installed.

both computers are on the same workgroup, both have the same IP scheme
and subnet and both have teh same username & pw's. and yes, XP does
have file sharing enabled (as i have already shared which the 2k3 box
can access). the issue is taht the 2k3 box cannot access a protected
share on the Xp box
