Would implementing a secure P2P Voice "chat" be too far out of reach (i.e. a
P2P Voice Over IP)? I think that'd be a pretty useful project, and could
turn out to work pretty well.

Spam will soon be a thing of the past, just as caller-id and answering
machines, opt-out databases and legislateion have eliminated phone-
solicitation, or are in the process of doing so.

What we need is spam-servers, where people can post all of their "big
offers" for others to peruse.

Sounds very interesting. Something else I have discussed with a friend some
time ago was a distributed bookmarking service on a P2P basis, so that
wherever you find an interesting webpage (home, office, notebook), you
don't have to copy and merge bookmarks over and over again.

Both sound neat, very doable!

For the voice chat thing be sure to check out those compression codecs used
by cell phones. If you're targetting higher quality, check out ogg vorbis
(www.vorbis.com) which is a "completely open, patent-free, professional
audio encoding and streaming technology", and probably won't get you in
trouble like mp3.

How about an open source iSCSI target for Linux? Several open source
initiators exist; we only need a target package now!
