Scenario:
Customer has multiple sites connected via VPN.
From any remote site, when trying to open internet explorer, there is a
20-30 second delay before the program opens.
A packet trace shows a lot of traffic going to "My Documents" which is
redirected via group policy on the W2K3_R1 server's AD.
If folder redirection is disabled, IE opens instantly.
This problem happens with programs that enumerate "my documents" in the
course of opening as well. Word, Excel.. All exhibit very sluggish response.
I tried the two registry edits that related to safedll, and nohome.. don't
have exact references available right now.
This started happening to me as well last week when I started working a lot
via my own vpn. His is Cisco, mine is Sonicwall. Only occurs when VPN is
connected, and folder redirection is enabled. We both have in excess of 5GB
of data in our home directories.
