ICQ says no disk space after 210MB which I don't understand as obviously I
have many 10's of GB's left and MSN Messenger does not allow you to transfer
more that one file at a time so is there any chat type prog like ICQ which
allows for large multiple file transfers ??

Why not just share a directory on a drive. Then go into Network
Neighbourhood, and either open it, or map it as virtual drive.

Then drag and drop to your hearts content !!

I was thinking of suggesting that but thought with it being such a
simple answer I must be overlooking something. Perhaps I'm not, I
share many files across a network without any extra software.
