I am fixing up my friends' computers (one new, and one I'm updating) and they
will both be xp... They have children who use a computer program (Grammar
Key) to do lessons in... The issue is that without a network when they do
lessons on one computer, they won't show as complete if they go on the other
computer. I already looked to see if there was a way to pull user data from a
certain location, but it does not have any options close to doing that...

My question is if I set up a network will I be able to use user data from
one location... I was thinking of mapping a drive and then changing the
shortcut of the program from the c:/ drive to the mapped drive. I wasn't sure
if it would pull all data when starting the program from the mapped drive
location, or if it would even have an error for not being a local program...
(althought the software is already installed on both computers)

My question is if its possible to set it up in any way to pull the users
from one location on both computers, since that's all they currently would
need a network for... And if its possible if there's any other ways of going
around to do it if you guys wouldn't think my idea would work? Thanks for any
help...

Justin

Hi

A program that it is installed on one computer can Not run on another
computer through the Network. On a regular Home Network you can transfer
files and used mapped drive to load info files from another computer into an
application, but the application would run only on the computer that it is
originally installed on.

It is possible to use an application from another computer by using Remote
Control ( http://www.ezlan.net/vnc.html ) but I am afraid that it might be
too complicated as a solution to your specific need.

Jack (MVP-Networking).
