Prog to measure data use?

Anyone know of a program that will measure how much data I up & download
over a month?

I'm not on a capped service but my ISP has just offered a 1MB line rate with
a 3GB cap limit for the same price I'm paying now on my uncapped 512k

Just a thought, I use a router for my three pc's, would I have to install
the prog on all three pc's and total the three?

One pc is rarely used and another is just for VOIP

Thanks.

Sounds like a bit of a catch that one... offering "more" but with a
distinct catch.

The router may have a way of measuring traffic built in... what sort is
it - others may be able to advise.

Use PRTG from http://www.paessler.com/index_eng.html

This will monitor traffic at the router level rather than the PCs.
Far more reliable.

But unfortunately it does not work with a lot of routers you need to have
SNMP ability on your router.

Indeed. Many routers, even cheap ones, do have rudimentary
SNMP though.

and you got to keep it running all the time.

One simple way to measure your download/Upload is to count the packets in
and out and do a bit of maths.

On my Draytek it give WAN packets and Up time. With these and your MTU you
can work out the data.

Packets * MTU = bytes total
Bytes Total / Time Up (Usually Mins)
Multiply this by 60x24 (Gives bytes per day Average)
Then divide by 1024 for KBytes/Day
again by 1024 for MBytes/Day

This allows me to keep an eye on my download to see if I am averaging higher
then the 1GB/day currently used for BTB

No you don't.

Although it does keep a background monitoring process going.
