Hi

we're upgrading from Win2000 Pro to XP Pro. i'm using a ghost image to
deploy the new OS.

After the upgrade, i want all users logging on to for the first time, to
pick up settings from the 'Default User' profile

unfortunately, it seem that if the user already has a profile on the server
that was created whilst they were logging on to a win2000 Pro machine, then
XP dose not apply the 'Default User' settings.

i can't just delete all the old profiles as they contain App Data, Desktop
and My Documents files.

anyone know how to force 'Default User' setting?

or a workaround?

thanks

Jado

You answered your own question. You have to delete the existing user's
profile.

Don't know. It depends on waht you want to "apply" and what you expect to
happen. I think you are taking the wrong approach.

Create a temporay Group Policy to only allow local user profiles. See:

Hi Doug

i've read the artical.

basically, all i want is for certain win explorer and taskbar settings to be
loaded when my users logon to XP for the first time.

for example, i want all users to use 'Classic View' by default.

if i've understood want your hinting at correctly...

i create a temp GPO to allow only local settings
log all existing users onto xp at least once
remove the GPO

when users logon again, any XP changes will be kept, any other info in there
existing profile on the server will copy down?

in the mean time, i'm going to give this a go with a test user.

thanks

Jado
