Hi, lately I have been having problems with my DSL connection when I use
DC++ and browsing at the same time.I have a Netgear DG834G v.2 modem and I
have checked through netstat that I have a lot of open ports (listening..).
Is there a way that DC++ drains the bandwith from the connection. Since the
connection is very slow even when I am not downloading something, and it is
running. Is there a program that I can monitor ports and regulate the
bandwith for browsing, e-mailing etc...and for dowloading??

Thanks a lot

Marios

Yes, that's normal, they're not necessarily server ports (and in fact
probably aren't) I'd have thought they're more likely part opened
connections, negotiation is happening at the time you run netstat. Either
that or they're UDP links, where a connection is never negotiated but a
port is opened to recieve replies and acknowledgements

Is it uploading? I can't tell if you're on ADSL or standard dialup, if
dialup then uploading reduces the download bandwidth. It's also possible
that the sheer number of open sockets is slowing you down, depending on
your machine.

There's TCPView at http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/TcpView.html
which will let you watch active connections, and there's netlimiter at
www.netlimiter.com which will let you restrict allowed bandwidth on a
process by process basis.

Thanks a lot Dave,
I have a DSL connection and I have downloaded Net-Regulator and it
seemed that the huge usage of the bandwith from DC++ was the problem (a lot
of uploading going on...).As soon as I limited the upload ratio and fixed
the downloading ratio all (DC++ and internet) worked perfectly and with
normal speeds.BUT it seems the DC does not like Net-Regulator and it crashes
so I will try Net Limiter to see if it goes better. The problem seems to be
that DC++ does not handle well the upload/download ration and it drains the
bandwith. I will try TcpView as well..

Best Wishes

M
