Hi All
Friends of family bought latest Belkin wireless router and Belkin USB
wireless dongle for their Win98 machine and thought it could link up.
I was sceptical that the Belkin USB dongle would work under Win98 and even
though the box says it can the documentation inside says it is WinXP/2000.
Typical!!
Anyway by chance they had also bought a couple of Belkin PCI LAN cards, so
happy as larry I told them these will definitely work in the Win98 machine
(even box said suitable for Win 95, Win 98, etc), but problems, problems,
problems.
I installed the card, turned on the PC, waited for it to detect and ask for
the CD (which it did), inserted the CD, driver installed fine, Win98
recognised the right card and it started up as normal.
Went to Network Neighbourhood to look at the TCP/IP settings for the card
and found that there was no TCP or adaptor available for the card. Only the
built in modem was available.
Went to Device Manager and found that the device had a red cross on it and
that the device was disabled. Generic 'Windows had a problem so disabled'
comment was showing so enabled the device. Applied fine, but couple of
seconds later it was disabled again by the system.
As the installation was faultless, any ideas what could be causing this?
Thanks
Laphan
