I cannot access a shared folder from XP Pro that resides on a WIN ME
workstation when Norton Internet security is enabled (Nor can I ping the
machine). Disable it and all is well. Norton does not popup any message
either. Is this a config issue witht Norton or is it not possible to run
NIS in a LAN

Many thanks

Becareful, NIS is Network Information Service and is known as NIS, not
norton internet security, and has been known as that for years, you might
get more information than you bargain for.

Of course it was known as Yellow Pages until the real Yellow Pages
people took exception, which is why you get commands like yppasswd.

Here you go:

Which version of NIS (I assume you mean Norton Internet Security) are you
running? If 2003, then you go to Personal Firewall, then the yellow
"configure" button. Select "Home Networking tab and the "Trusted Zone" tab.
Click on the "Wizard" button. This will find your network card and should
list your IP address. (192.168.........) Make sure it is listed in the
"Trusted Zone" and then reboot. All should be well. I have had the same
problem today, just connected laptop to network, now it works. If other
version, I will look it up for you.
