I have a situation where I am trying to share resources
between a Window 98SE machine and a Windows XP machine
via a TCP/IP protocol. The two machines are connected
via a Belkin 4 port router which has NAT enabled and DHCP
disabled. Both machines are on the same subnet
(255.255.255.0) yet I am unable to access the WinXP
machine's resources from the Win98 machine. In addition,
pinging the ip address of the WinXP machine only results
in a 'Request timed out' message. What's more
interesting is that the Win98 machine is identifed in my
My Network Places / View workgroup computers and I am
able to access its resources from the WinXP machine. I
have TCP/IP protocols on both machines. The NetBEUI
protocol is installed on the Win98 machine and NetBIOS
enabled over TCP/IP on the WinXP machine. Can someone
PLEASE help.

Turn off the XP built-in firewall if you have not done so already.
