Problems Networking WIN ME PC to XP PRO PC

Has anyone had the problem of a peer2peer network working for a couple of
minutes then hanging?

When I reboot the client PC the network re-establishes then hangs again
after a couple of minutes. It seems to be the internet gateway on the client
that stops responding.

Disconnecting the client PC and connecting an X-Box to the host works fine.

Host PC is running XP Pro, client is running Windows ME.
