I've got a laptop (wireless) running win98 and a new
computer running windows XP home edition. I can't get the
laptop to see the desktop or vice versa. Both are in the
MSHOME workgroup and the XP is not behind a firewall (that
little checkbox for sharing is not checked either). I've
tried the network setup wizard and no dice. Any advice
would be appreciated! I had no problems when I was
running only windows 98 on two machines.

Thanks
Scott

Follow this address... the reply this guy gives works
perfectly. I've had the same trouble and NOONE has
suggested this solution. Once I followed this guys
directions, everything just kind of fell into place.
Good luck! Carol

Un-install all firewall programs (ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security,
etc) while troubleshooting the network. An improperly configured
firewall can cause problems like you're seeing.

If that doesn't help, please reply to this message in the news group
(not by E-mail) with more information to help other people understand
the problem.

Is there an Internet connection on your network? What type?

How are the computers connected to each other -- through a crossover
cable, hub, switch, or broadband router?

What did you tell the Network Setup Wizard when it asked how your
computers connect to the Internet?

What IP address and subnet mask does each computer have?

Can the computers ping themselves and each other by IP address? By
computer name?

Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group
for everyone to see. I'm sorry, but I don't answer questions
addressed directly to me in E-mail or news groups.
