I am having problems with a recently purchased WUSB11 ver. 2.8 802.11b
adapter, which is installed on a computer running Windows XP. I
thought I'd give this newsgroup a try again, since I had a different
problem last year that Linksys support couldn't solve, but someone
here gave me the solution in less than a day.
The computer with the WUSB11 ver 2.8 adapter was working fine, but
suddenly yesterday afternoon, the green "LINK" light on the adapter
began to blink at a regular rate (about once per second). That
computer no longer connects to the network at all. It I did not
made any changes to anything on the network -- just simply turned the
computer on that afternoon and ran into this problem. When I power
the computer up, the "LINK" LED is solid green, but once XP starts to
load, the LED starts blinking at a steady rate.
Anyone run into this problem before? Better yet, anybody have any
ideas on how to fix this? I can occasionally see the SSID of my
network when clicking "View Available Wireless Networks," but even
then I don't get assigned the right IP via DHCP -- instead, it goes to
some "Automatic IP" that I think is from my cable company.
More details about my network: cable modem is connected to my network
via a Linksys BEFW11S4 v.2 router. Another computer with an older
WUSB11 v. 2.6 adapter and running Win XP is running fine on the
network, as is a computer running Win98 that is directly connected to
the router via ethernet. Everything is Linksys (which may be the
problem...). I'm using WEP, if that matters, and the key is
definitely entered correctly on the problem computer. I've tried
uninstalling the adapter and reinstalling it, but I keep running into
the same problem, and now every time I "install" the adapter, I get a
new number (i.e., Linksys WUSB11 USB adapter #2, #3, #4, #5...). (It
doesn't seem like a complete uninstall, though, because when I
reinstall it, I'm not prompted by XP to look for new drivers, etc.)
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
