I recently set up a base stations with no problems. I am
now trying to set up a older notebook (running W98)to be
part of the network. Last weekend I installed the
broadband connection software on the laptop. In the
course of the setup I was able to enter the security
code, saw the power and wireless lights on the wireless
adapter go on for a couple of minutes. I then opened up
the Broadband control panel which essentially told me I
was not connected. At some point in that process the
lights went out. I uninstalled and reinstaled the
software a couple of times and now each time the wizard
instructs me to insert the notebook adapter (but before I
actually insert it), the CD drive kicks out the CD and
even if I reinsert the CD I can't go any further in the
setup. Also in the process I had to reinstall the PCI
drivers because the didn't show up in the device manager.
Now the device manager sees the wireless network adapter,
but I am unable to locate the correct driver to run it. I
point it to the install disk, but it says it can't find a
driver for it.
I am wondering since this is an old laptop if perhaps the
PC card connector is what is recommended in the system
requirements. How would I tell if I have the right
hardware?
