Today, I should be up and running with my new Pipex Solo 500 broadband
package, but I'm not.

Several times over the last two days I have attempted to install and
connect the Speedtouch 330 modem which was supplied by Pipex as part of
my Solo 500 service.

As instructed I first insert the Speedtouch CD and install the software.

Next I connect the USB modem and filters.

But then I find:

1. The system is unable to install the necessary driver files for the
modem as these cannot be found anywhere. They are:
atmui.dll
isdnui.dll
secur32.dll
svrapi.dll
isdn.dll
isdn.hlp
ndis.vxd
ndis2setup.vxd
ndiswan.vxd
ndiswam.vxd
ndswmi.sys
vnetbios.vxd

These are not available on my Win98SE disk.

2. Also, if I click on the Speedtouch shortcut which is presented on
the desktop I get the error message:

Could not create entry (""+speedtouch connection+"")

3. And thirdly, there is no Alcatel Speedtouch icon created under
Control Panel>Dial Up Networking as I had expected from the
installation iinstructions.

I am at a total loss as to what to do next and would welcome any help to
resolve these problems to get me up and running.

Thanks,
Ed

Very simple really get rid of your ancient operating system and
install the modern and excellent Windows XP my Speedtouch works fine.

I`ve got some drivers available... ftp (using a real ftp program if
possible, not IE) to...

ftp to : phoenixbbs.ath.cx
Login : speedtouch
Password : drivers

If you really have to use IE, and if you`re on XP, you need to right
click and select "log in"

Ignore the bible bashing welcome message - its there to put off port
scanners - and works an absolute treat. Anonymous users also get to see
nothing but bible texts, just for a little added authenticity ;-)

I`d probably suggest grabbing the entire Speedtouch CD directory (~8Mb)
followed by the PPoA zipped file (~4.5Mb) which was the first update I
got.

Alternatively, this might work on a non-XP machine, depending on the
version of IE:

Quite unnecessary!

In general those files should be in your windows\system directory.

If they are not there I suggest you go to control panel / add remove programs /
windows setup /Communications and install or re-install dial up networking

I connected a 330 using win 98 1st edition, though I find a router much better.

98SE will get it working just fine.

I still use 98SE and despise XP with a vengeance.

That occurred to me after I made my initial post, but I don`t have some
of the files he said he was missing, and i`ve had the speedtouch working
on this machine fine.

any win 98 and up operarting system even works on linux, win xp is not the
answer to the problem.

Very helpfull post. I use a 330 under Win98 and it works fine. I have
XP on my laptop and am not convinced it is any better than 98.
