Problems with IBM Thinkpad laptops with D-link router

Any ideas on this? I set up a D-Link DI-514 802.11b wireless router
connected to Virgin Media to provide internet coverage for 4 students
in a shared house. Two of them get good coverage and have no
problems; the other 2 have problems loading web pages. Both problem
laptops are IBM THinkpads. (the OK ones are a DELL and a MAC). One
of the Thinkpads is about a year old, but had not used its radio
before.

One of the rooms is immediately above the room with the router. But
the problem occurs even when the Thinkpads are in the same room as the
wireless router.

When the Thinkpads are connected via the wired ports, they work fine.

I've checked obvious things like interferers, and have asked the
laptop users to connect via someone else's wireless routers to test
them.

Does anyone know of any problems with Thinkpad radios, or of any
oncompatibility between them and DI-514s?

Thanks,

Peter.

I use a T60 ThinkPad on a DSL604T with no problems.

I have a DI<something> here and I'll try and test that over the weekend if
you want.

That would be very kind. Please let me know what sort of DI it is.

Thanks,

Peter.

Its a DI-524 (WAN, LAN with WiFi b & g

I presume the signal is good for the 2 who are having the problems, and I
presume you have checked for interference (from other wireless networks on
the same channels)

Netstumbler is one handy application for checking such things as signal and
SNR.

I will check over the weekend anyway for you. Like I said my 604T is fine
with my ThinkPad.

I'll let you know anyway!

Yes, it's fine for the other 2, one of whom is probably furthest
away. One of these is a DELL, the other a MAC.

Yes, checked this when I installed. It's possible that there are
other interferers since installation; it's a student house surrounded
by other student houses.

Sorry for the delay - was off ill last week, and then my PC decided to die
on me, so I've spent the week sorting that out.

Anyway tested the lappy on the other router I have, and it all worked ok.

If you want to let me know what settings your using I can try with those if
you like
