We're running SBS2003 and have an application which uses ftp to send files to
a Unix server. We found this was hanging and after about 2 hours we'd loose
network access to the SBS2003 box (could not ping) and could only resolve by
an operator physically rebooting the system. Through isolation we found that
the Unix box was not generating the prompt for user name - it was just
hanging. They resolved this on the Unix box by disabling DNS lookup
security. Why didn't the ftp client (from the command line) simply release
with an error?
