When users login off the network, cached credentials mean that they have
proxy settings enabled.

We would like this not to be the case - that is only have proxy settings
enabled when laptop users are on not off the network.

Is there a registry key or other setting that if configured would remove the
proxy settings when users are not connected to the network - (but are logged
in with cached credentials...

No setting that I am aware off.
hkcu\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings is where
these settings are kept. AutoConfigURL is the path the automatic
configuration script and ProxyServer is the server and port.
Enter into the registry during logon and then clear it at logoff seems a
very dirty approach to the problem.. but the only one I can see of the top of
my head.
Hope this helps some,
Mark

Why do you want to jump through all those hoops? Just show the user how to
right-click on the Explorer icon on the desktop and go into the
Connection/LAN Settings and uncheck the simple checkboxes. It only takes
about 5 seconds and maybe 4 mouse clicks.

A machine's network configuration is part of the machine's
environment,...and you can not move a machine from one environment to
another and not have to adjust for it. There are tools like Netswitcher
(www.netswitcher.com) that can be used for some of this stuff,...but using
that is probably more trouble and a lot more mouse clicks than what I
already described above.

One other solution is to configure your LAN using DNS & DHCP for proxy
auto-detection (investigate WPAD). When not on the LAN, a proxy won't be
detected, so it won't try to use one.

Your last suggestion Phillip seems interesting.
Can you expand on how to do this ?
Thanks again

This article is specific to ISA2004. Exact details for your proxy may
vary,...there is no way I can know what they are.
