I recently networked my work-at-home Windows 2000 PC (validated
against a domain server, we'll call it "xxx") to my home Windows 98
PC. They are both connected to a Linksys router which is then
connected to the outside world via a cable modem. By setting the
Windows 98 machine to logon on to Microsoft Windows Networking by
using the same UserID as is set up on the Windows 2000 domain and
setting the Workgroup on the Win98 machine to be the same as "xxx", I
was able to successfully get this to work and was able to print/file
share between the systems.
Now, the problem. I recently had to change my Exchange ID as part of
changing my external e-mail address at work. I still logon to the
Windows 2000 system the same way as before (same original user ID),
but when I go into Outlook, I have to log on to the new Exchange ID
(my old ID with a "1" appended to it). This, in my opinion, should not
affect the way my domain validation occurs, etc. But ever since that
time, I can not see the Windows 98 home PC from my work Windows 2000
PC! What gives here? My company's help desk has been less than useful,
mostly because they are mad at me for requesting the new Exchange ID
(but I had to for getting 40+ spam e-mails a day coming through the
company's filters!)
Please help -- I do not want to have to go back to my old Exchange ID
and all the pornographic emails!
